DESCRIPTION

The JUNA V Neck is a classic slipover/sweater with a V-neck in half brioche stitch. The sweater can be worked in different variations, with or without sleeves. It is knitted top-down in one piece. No seaming is required.

The piece begins with a narrow back neck band. Then stitches for the back are cast on, and the back neckline and shoulder section are shaped using short rows. After that, the work continues straight down to the armholes.

The two front sections are worked separately and attached to the back. The stitches from the back neck band are incorporated into the fronts, so the bands for the front neckline are knitted at the same time. The short rows are worked in reverse to the back, with additional increases shaping the V-neck. At the underarm, back and fronts are joined and the body is finished in the round.

For the optional sleeves, stitches are picked up around the armhole and worked in the round. All hems are finished with an I-cord bind-off.

The sweater can be worked with 2 or 3 strands in smooth or textured half brioche. You can also choose between a simple or split hem and narrow or wide balloon sleeves. Two possible combinations are shown in model sketches 1 and 2. However, all variations can be combined so you can design your own individual model.

Fit 2 out of 5

Difficulty smooth half brioche 3 out of 5 (short rows with German Short Rows)

Difficulty textured half brioche 4 out of 5 (short rows with wrap and turn)

PATTERN and Gauge

STITCH PATTERN

Half brioche with yarn overs

GAUGE

Half brioche with yarn overs 3 strands with yarn option 1 or 2 strands with yarn option 2:
with 6 mm needles or adjust to obtain gauge: 13 stitches x 13 brioche rows (= 26 rows) = 10 x 10 cm

Note that 2 rows always correspond to 1 brioche row, meaning one visible knit brioche stitch on the right side of the work.

wool and amount

Model 1 (Slipover)
Yarn option 1 with 2 strands of ”Mohair Luxe” (175m/25g) in Violet 346 and 1 strand of ”Cashmere Dreams” in Violet 047 (290m/25g) by Lang Yarns

Model 2 (Sweater)
Yarn option 2 with 2 strands of ”Mohair Luxe” (175m/25g) in Yellow 114 or Reseda Green 192 by Lang Yarns

The stated yardage always refers to the total yarn consumption for the respective version of yarn option 1 and 2 (including swatch):

Base yardage (actual meters knitted)

Without sleeves 465 (500) 528 (572) 622 (662) 713 m

With sleeves 690 (737) 782 (844) 918 (985) 1062 m

Yarn option 1 (3 strands, yarn weight 0.37 g/m)

Without sleeves

2 strands ”Mohair Luxe” (175m/25g) 150 (150) 150–175 (175) 200 (200) 225 g

together with

1 strand ”Cashmere Dreams” (290m/25g) 50 (50) 50 (50) 75 (75) 75 g

With sleeves

2 strands ”Mohair Luxe” (175m/25g) 200 (225) 225 (250) 275 (300) 325 g

together with

1 strand ”Cashmere Dreams” (290m/25g) 75 (75) 75 (75) 100 (100) 100 g

Yarn option 2 (2 strands, yarn weight 0.28 g/m)

See yarn option 1 but using only Mohair Luxe without Cashmere Dreams.

Formula to calculate yarn amounts for alternative yarns:
Base yardage / yardage of your yarn x number of strands = number of skeins

Example with 210m/25g yarn, size M, with sleeves, 3 strands:
782 m / 210 m x 3 = 11.2 skeins = round up to 12 skeins

NEEDLES

Circular needles 5 and 6 mm, 40 and 60/80–100 cm depending on size

Double-pointed needles 6 mm

SUPPLIES

Stitch markers for 6 mm needle: 6 in color 1, 1 in color 2, 1 in color 3, optionally 2 in color 4 to mark short rows,
extra cable or waste yarn for holding stitches, measuring tape, needle, scissors

KNITTING TECHNIQUES

  • Long-tail cast-on
  • Half brioche with yarn overs
  • Short rows (smooth half brioche with double stitch / German Short Rows – textured half brioche with wrap and turn)
  • I-cord

TIP: If some of these knitting techniques are new to you, I recommend practicing them on a small swatch first. This will save you from having to unravel your finished piece.
